The 1916-D dime is extremely rare in every respect. Walter Breen writes that dime production in Denver was halted in 1916 so workers could devote themselves entirely to making quarters. The 1916-D’s mintage of 264,000 is the lowest of that series. For comparison, the 1916 mintage was 22,180,080 and the 1916-S was 10,450,000. The 1916-D is a very sought-after coin in every condition, and even in very poor condition it is worth over $1,000.

The 1916-D dime is rare even in Mint State and extremely rare in Gem condition. The strike is generally very sharp and an estimated 80% of Mint State coins have completely strict crossbands. Luster is generally medium and many coins have some coloring.
Note that this is a very counterfeit coin. The bad guys add a “D” to the 1916 Philadelphia to make it a fake. I have seen counterfeit coins in every grade and PCGS sees 5 to 10 counterfeit coins every week. So, third-party certification is a must.
1894-S Barber Dime
